Problems and Solutions Pool System
Solution Replace or Eliminate Copper Light Niche: Trying to stop a copper light is too risky and will most likely cause further damage. APCO Pools recommends a new liner and replacing the copper niche with an updated light niche. Pool decking and possibly diving board around the location of the light may need to be removed and replaced. Another option would be to eliminate and cover the light socket before the new liner is installed.
Problem - Pool owner wants to replace liner and update her 8" wide worn aluminum coping but does not want to replace her concrete.
Solution - Installed new liner and top-mount tracking along with a 90 degree wedding cake step with new handrail. Bull-nose brick coping was install around the perimeter of the pool.
Problem - Indoor concrete pool with structural leaks.
Solution - Converted over an indoor concrete pool to except a vinyl liner.
Problem - Unattractive and worn bullnose coping
Solution - Spray existing coping using bullnose coping paint. This was done before the installation of a new liner.
Problem - Putting chlorine tablets in the skimmer basket.
Solution - To avoid bleaching and ruining your liner, we recommend having a chlorine feeder or salt generator installed at your filtration area.
Problem - Chlorine floater stuck behind the pool ladder dispensing highly concentrated amounts of chlorine right on the liner. This may cause chemical damage to the liner.
Problem - A floater filled with chlorine tablets without a lid. If the floater tips over, the tablets will fall to the bottom and bleach out the liner. Always use a lid. APCO Pools does not recommend the use of chlorine floating devices.
Problem - Damage to the Liner on the Top Step This particular top step has chemical damage on the left and right side. The damage on the left side is most likely due to the trapped floater dissolving high levels of chlorine in the step cove. The damage to the right side is mostly like due to shock being directly poured on top of the liner. The vinyl is also wrinkled on both sides as a result of contact with the floater sitting in only a couple of inches of water. Solution - Recommend an automatic chlorine feeder instead of a floater and always dissolve powder shock in water and pour in the deep end of the pool away from the step area.
Solution - Replace your floater with an inexpensive automatic chlorine dispenser plumbed in at the filtration area. Another safe and convenient way to add daily chlorine to your pool is to add a Salt Generator System.
Problem - Possible iron in the water that could cause white steps to turn dingy yellow.
Solution - Place a Vitamin C tablet on top of the step. If the yellow instantly disappears, then you have confirmed that iron is in the water. This problem can be fixed by using proper chemicals, cleaning out the filter, and using an iron filter.
Liner damage due to improper chemical installation. Solution - See Basic Pool Chemistry in the Help Center.
Problem - Damage to this liner is called pH wrinkling. Pool chemicals especially pH were way off balance. Solution - Do not add chlorine to your pool water and think it is balanced. Alkalinity and pH must be on point as well.
Problem - Skimmer line clogged with this debris. The pool owner was manually vacuuming his pool without a leaf basket allowing the debris to get trapped in the skimmer line.
Solution - Attach a skim-vac adapter to your vacuum hose before vacuuming your pool.
Problem: A frozen cover pump hose. The long hose will sag in the middle and trap water that could freeze. Solution: Purchase a hose that is dedicated for the cover pump. It should be just long enough to get the water away from the pool. Most pools only need a 12' hose. Note: It may be difficult to tell if it is frozen water inside the hose or the pump is not working. Before purchasing a new cover pump, check the following: 1.) Install a different hose and see if that works. 2.) Clean and remove debris on cover pump. 3.) Check electrical outlet and make sure there is power. 4.) Plug pump in outlet without the extension cord. 5.) Plug pump in with the extension cord.
Problem - Rusty diving board and diving board hardware.
