Hiring a Contractor

It’s no secret that hiring any contractor can be an intimidating experience.  Hiring a pool service contractor is no exception.  So how do you hire a contractor to perform pool service or pool renovations without getting soaked in the process?  It’s the same thing you have always been told.  You must do your homework to checkup on any prospective contractors.  Most importantly this must be done before hiring them!

Many times APCO receives a call from an upset homeowner who had a bad experience with a pool service contractor.  Many of these customers were given an estimate by APCO but hired someone else, and now they wish they had gone with APCO.  They tell us it wasn’t until afterwards that they discover other people had the same issues and complaints and if they had known this before they would not have hired them.

Please do your homework before hiring any contractor or before signing any contract. Even before calling them if possible.  Below are links to allow consumers to research any pool service contractor.   Follow these independent consumer guidelines and you will be able to understand if the contractor you are intending on hiring is as good as he says he is.

For Pennsylvania residents there is a new law to help protect homeowners.  It requires that all home improvement (and pool) contractors be registered with the state.  If they are not registered and do not have a verified PA contractor’s number, then it is illegal for them to work in the state of Pennsylvania.
